1. Review of overseas educational markets

– Important Changes of National Immigration Policies

CANADA

For the sake of developing Canadian economy sustainably , at the end of 2017, the Canadian government announced that it will significantly introduce millions of immigrants since 2018, and the immigration quota will be more than 310000. Additionally, international students are allowed to work in Canada legally after graduation up to three years; meanwhile, students are expected to apply for permanent resident visa and have the Canadian social welfare after continuously working in Canada for one year. The difficulty of immigation to Canada has dramatically declined in recent years.

America

There are various policies have been introduced in recent years. The U.S government plans to tighten the policies for work visa applications and abolish the spouses’ work permit for work visa holders. Moreover, oversea students will find it harder to apply for immigration and  the processing of immigration to the United States will become more difficult than previous years.

British

The British government has broadened the coverage of schools for the privilege of master students’ work visa application, which means students are now entitled with more time and greater chances to look for jobs after graduation, and the application process for the work visa has been simplified with shortened processing time.

– Recent Trends in the International Education Markets

High employment rate

According to the survey in 2017, the employment rate for international graduates from other countries is generally high, and they principally engage in the industry of computer science, finance, media, and education, which accounts for almost 37.5% in total. Other popular fields include international trade, arts, energy and automobiles. In comparison with previous years, the options of positions facing graduates are more diverse, and students no longer follow with the popular trends; instead, they would like to choose what they are really passionate about. Based on the data of survey, the overseas students possess more competitiveness than the local graduates with the similar qualifications.

Lower age of overseas students

Chinese parents generally hope that their children can accept better education in the developed countries as early as possible since they believe it can not only improve their children’s capability of independently living and studying, but also have better educational resources for the future career. As a result, more Chinese young students are sent abroad for studying even after they finish primary schools. Therefore, the lower age of international students will be the prevailing trend of recent international education markets.

Diversity of options

With the rapid development of Chinese economy in recent decades, an increasing number of countries gives the priority to Chinese students by offering special customized courses, scholarships, and language tutorial programs, etc., which offers a better stage for Chinese students to perform and improve themselves. In the past, many Chinese students chose schools based on the world rankings; but nowadays, students are more likely to choose schools according to their own career planning, which is conducive for their future personal development.

2. The prospect of Canadian educational markets

– More accesses for international students to the prestigious schools

In recent years, new co-operative programs are launched for international students to get the opportunity of studying in the prestigious universities with lower entrance requirements. For example, students of King’s College, which belongs to the Western University with various curricula, including liberal arts, management, social sciences as well as business and etc., can enjoy the same studying facilities and services at King’s College as those at Western University. After graduation, King’s students will be conferred exactly the same graduation certificate by Western University. Besides, King’s small class teaching will enable students with more chances to communicate with professors and classmates face to face for the sake of improving the studying efficiency. In addition, the application process for King’s College is simpler than before and qualified applicants will get the offer in a shorter processing time.

– Higher requirements for English proficiency

Along with the change of immigration policy, the immigration boom in Canada boosts the amount of international students studying in Canada, which in turn raises up the requirements of schools’ admission. In terms of the language requirements, the minimum score of IELTS required increases from 6.0 to 6.5, which discourages many students to some extent. However, students do not need to be panic, there is more than one way to go; for example,  IELTS tutorial courses will be helpful for language skills improvement if students have enough time to do the preparation. Also, there is a good news for students getting away from IELTS. Nowadays, lots of Canadian universities have offered special language programs for students who have met the academic admission requirements but fail in the language tests. These courses are designed to pave a way for students to the official academic study in target universities or colleges without concerning about IELTS. The advantage of such language programs is that students are able to get used to the foreign classes in advance with other students from different countries and develop the English skills as soon as possible under the fully English-teaching environment.

– Increased tuition fees

According to the statistics about the tuition in 2018, the tuition fee for local students for the bachelor’s degree has grown up at average 3%, while the increasing rate for international students’ tuition fee is even larger at around 6.3%, which is rough to $25,000. However, different majors will lead to different tuition. For example, medical-related majors require the highest tuition fees, such as dentist, veterinary medicine, etc. Despite of the increasing tuition, the overall tuition for international students in Canada is located at the average level when comparing to other countries, such as America, Australia and United Kingdom.

– Work permit becomes the privilege for students

In order to develop and promote the local economy consistently, Canadian government has offered work permit from 8 months up to 3 years for international students who graduate from the recognized designated schools, which aims to retain those excellent talents and skilled workers in Canada. As for the international students, once they have accumulated one-year local work experience in Canada within the period of their valid work permit, they are entitled to apply for the permanent resident visa of Canada, and simultaneously receive the Canadian health care, education and other welfare policy.

– Entrepreneurship is encouraged in Canada

In recent years, there are increasing entrepreneurial opportunities for international students under the encouragement of government policies, and residents living in Canada are now offered with more available options for work positions. Thus, many local schools response to advocate policies and launch entrepreneurial incentive programs, including the offering of entrepreneurship award, Entrepreneurship plan etc. Meanwhile, Canadian government has provided relevant loan incentives and benefits to motivate those innovative companies for assisting people with entrepreneurial passion to realize their entrepreneurial dreams.

Visa & Study Permit Application and Renewal

The student visa in Canada is slightly different from other countries. The international students in Canada need both study visa and study permit for studying. Students come to Canada with study visa, and they can get the study permit from the customs at the first time arriving in Canada. Everytime when students get back to Canada, they have to bring both visa and study permit for the custom check. Study visa is stuck in the passport for entering into the Canada while study permit is a proof of legal status studying in Canada. Thus if visa expires, it will not be able to enter into Canada normally. When applying for visa or study permit renewal, if the students’ attendance is too low and too many courses fails, these factors will affect the renewal. As long as the students comply with the requirements of customs, attend to class and exam regularly, the renewal will not be a big problem.

FX International offers visa service for students, workers and tourists, which can efficiently deal with your visa application and go anywhere you want. We help you collect the application materials, submit visa application efficiently, check the application process and accurately give feedback. We are still on the way to render service for continuously gaining more trust and reputation.

Visitor Visa Transfer Study Visa Service

In recent years, with the increasing popularity of study abroad, more and more people apply to study in Canada. Therefore, the Canadian immigration office has been stricter in reviewing the visa application materials, and the student visa rejection rate has been increasing year by year. For some special groups, such as applicants who have worked for a long time after graduation, or applicants who have a master’s degree in China but still apply for a bachelor’s degree in Canada, the immigration department usually refuses to approve such student visas on the grounds of “Visit Purpose”. Therefore, most of these applicants would first apply for the Visitor Visa of Canada, and then enter Canada with the Visitor Visa. When they arrive Canada, they choose to study a short-term language course or Pathway program. After passing the course and receiving the admission notice of professional courses from the designated colleges and universities, they would convert the Visitor Visa into Study Visa.

In addition, since June 1, 2014, the Canadian immigration authorities have stipulated that “students who have completed short-term training courses for entering professional courses of designated colleges and universities” can directly apply for Study Visa in Canada.
  2. The Spouse can get Work Permit, and their children can have free education: after the principal applicant is granted the Visa, the spouse of applicant can apply for Work Permit, thus the spouse can work legally in Canada. In addition, the principal applicant’s children can also go to public primary or secondary schools nearby, who is free of tuition.
  3. Widely Applicable: such as older applicants (30 years of age or older), accompanied parents, the person whose education upside down (has completed the undergraduate or graduate degree in China), as well as the applicant has the funds problems, through normal application process of study has a great risk of rejection, as a result, Visitor Visa transfer Study Visa becomes the popular choice of this kind of people.

Many excellent private high schools are boarding schools, where students from different countries study and live together to improve English, communication skills and independent living and learning ability. High School Transfer

Public high school and private high school have different advantages and disadvantages. Specific school choice depends on the students’ learning ability, requirements and other aspects of the school environment. However, all the study plan is done in domestic, and often ignored many practical problems, such as students learning hard, weak communication skills, or cannot be integrated into the collective. These phenomena will affect the students’ grades and social skills.

Therefore, FX International is not only in the professional positioning of the school, also provide high school transfer service in the subsequent need. A full range of service guarantee students to clear the learning obstacles!

Differences between Public School and Private School:

– The school time: Private high schools open several times a year, with only a few weeks between terms, while public high schools only open in September and February. In terms of enrollment time, private high schools are relatively flexible.

– Curriculum: The schedule of private high schools is divided into three periods: morning, middle and evening. The schedule of private high schools is relatively full, while the schedule of public high schools is relatively loose, starting at 9:00 am and ending at 3:00 PM every day.

– English course arrangement: Private high schools are required to complete all ESL classes before they can take a formal class, while public high schools have ESL classes and formal classes at the same time.

– Proportion of international students: The proportion of international students in private high schools is higher, about 60%, while in public high schools is less, about 10%.

– Accomodation: Private high schools generally provide accommodation with excellent environment and students can’t go to and from campus freely, while public high schools mostly do not have on-campus accommodation and students need to find additional host families.

– Credit transfer: Private high schools recognize the credits of domestic high schools, so almost 100% of the credits can be converted. However, public high schools do not accept the credits of domestic high schools, and can only transfer 75% of the credits at most.
– Teaching mode: Private high schools generally teach in small classes, with more opportunities for students to interact and communicate with teachers, while public high schools generally teach in large classes, with less interaction and communication between students and teachers.

– Admission rate: Private high schools have a long-term cooperative relationship with most universities, so they have a high admission rate and can offer double admission to international students, while public high schools have a medium admission rate, and about 40% to 50% of graduates tend to attend College rather than university.

– Cost: The cost of private high schools is relatively high, the total cost of living expenses plus tuition is about 300,000 RMB/year, while the cost of public high schools is relatively low, the total cost of living expenses plus tuition is about 150,000 RMB/year.

Why Choose High School Transfer?

Many parents choose to send their children to public schools at first, because there are many local students in public schools, hoping that their children can have a good language environment to learn English and better integrate into the local culture.Canada’s public high schools are characterized by their large scale, large number of local students, abundant educational resources and complete curriculum. If public schools have so many advantages, why are more and more students considering transferring to private schools?

Public high schools in Canada are mainly for the purpose of shaping the all-round development of children rather than just for the purpose of higher education. Therefore, the proportion of fresh high school graduates who are admited to local universities is not so high. Many local students prefer to go to College to study a skilled major for the future employment. Therefore, attending a public high school is not the best choice for children who expect to enter a prestigious school in the future.

Second, public schools give priority to local students.Only when the educational resources of local students are guaranteed, the education bureau will consider accepting international students to generate income. This explains why not all public schools are open to international students. Of the 105 high schools registered by the Toronto board of education, only 28 are open to international students.Only 23 of york’s 33 registered high schools accept international students.

In addition, because the public school’s course selection is more complete than private schools, students often face many elective courses but do not know how to choose, and often choose courses that do not have much effect on the application of universities or are not for university preparatory courses (AP).For example, in grade 11 and grade 12 of Ontario high school, the code that ends in U (University) or M (Mixed University and College) are suitable for University courses, while C courses are recognized only by colleges.

Last but not least, international students need to take English as a second language (ESL) courses to help them complete their studies. However, there is a shortage of ESL teachers in Canadian public education. In public schools, ESL teachers tend to be unprofessional. There are very few ESL teachers who have received professional ESL training to teach. As a result, most Chinese students studying in public schools cannot complete ESL courses well and delay the best time to apply for universities.

Summary

The choice of public school and private school has its own advantages and disadvantages.Blindly believing in the language environment in public schools is a mistake.Although some international students try their best to make contact with local students and make foreign friends, most of them still try to find support from native speakers in their daily life. Therefore, studying in public schools does not necessarily prevent Chinese students from gathering together.Compared with public high schools, private high schools in Canada are more “exam-oriented”, and students who attend private high schools have only one purpose: to get into top Canadian universities.

College Application

For international students who want to get a job faster or take some specialized technical courses, public College are the best alternative except for the University.Public College offer courses include Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Certificate, Degree, and different courses require different language requirement. Advantages of Studying in Colleges

  • The offerings of Co-op program for building network and accumulating experience earlier
  • The technical and professional skills can be effectively obtained from the colleges, and the education direction is to meet the vocational requirements

In Canada, volunteer service plays a very important role in the universities and even the entire social system; it helps the students get involved into the local society and culture more quickly and meanwhile improve the social skills. For those of us who are high school students in Canada, Canadian high schools require students to do at least 40-hour volunteer work before getting the high school diploma (OSSD).

The benefits of volunteering?

Volunteering helps you meet more friends, expand your network, and get better referrals for your future education or employment.

Meanwhile, it leads to the improvement of professional skills. We have awareness that knowledge not only comes from textbooks, but also from the practice. Thus absorbing more knowledge that cannot be learned in school is the main benefit from the volunteering, and it enables students to get involved into the real diversified society of Canada as fast as possible.

Overall, volunteers are expected to be the pioneers who would give back to the society, promote the establishment of a harmonious society, and cultivate good character in the society.

FX International offers high school students sufficient volunteer opportunities,  you’ll learn more from other people by participating in volunteer activities, and completing the mandatory volunteering hours! For more information, do not hesitate to contact with us!
